Michael Dale Sauer, 51 of Valley City, ND passed away Thursday, September 26th at Mercy Hospital.
Born to Dale and Diane (Altringer) Sauer Mike attended St. Catherine’s Elementary School, graduated from VCHS in 1980 and received an Agri-Business degree from Moorhead AVTI.
In 1984 Mike married Kari Brockman. Mike was employed by Overvold Motors in Fargo as a salesman during their first few months of marriage and in 1985 they moved to the family farm south of Sanborn where they farmed until 1998 while raising their two daughters Lindsay and Kelsey. Other employment included LaFarge Dakota, Inc., RDO Offutt Motors, Magnum Logistics, Autumn Transport and in 2010 became an independent self-employed owner/operator for KLM Enterprise.
While on the farm Mike enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, boating/waterskiing, four wheeler riding and preparing supper meals for his family.
In 2005 the family moved to rural Valley City where Mike spent numerous hours grass farming and snow blowing with his John Deere equipment.
Mike enjoyed everything about the outdoors. Views from the seat of his equipment or leisurely four wheeling almost anywhere in Barnes County rated high on his list as did joking around with his many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
Mike had a vast knowledge for many things and especially enjoyed discussing politics with his father-in-law.
Mike served on the Sanborn Church Council, Knights of Columbus, Sanborn Fire Department, Eagles Aerie 2192 and the ND Winter Show. For several years Mike announced the July 4th Sanborn celebration parade and demolition derby.
Those that knew Mike remember him for his witty sense of humor.
Through his many cancer adversities Mike managed to find a way to move forward with the support of his wife and daughters. Mike loved his wife and daughters’ as evident by the smile he showed every time you mentioned one of their names.
Mike is survived by his wife Kari and daughter Kelsey. Father Dale Sauer and step mother Millie; sisters Mary (Sauer) Kelly and Lynda (Sauer) Brandt; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lindsay Sauer, mother Diane (Altringer) Sauer, sister Laurel (Sauer) Kvilvang, niece Amanda and nephew Joshua Kvilvang.
Wake service is scheduled for 7 pm Sunday September 29th and funeral mass at 10:30 am Monday September 30th. All services will be held at St. Catherine’s Parish in Valley City. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on September 29th at the church.
