CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The North Star Athletic Association has once again named its players of the week for the current fall sports.

It was the second week in a row that Vikings athletes Derek Elliott and Shane Ost received the honor for their respective sports. Elliott earning the honor for his work on the football field, while Ost made his mark on the Golf Course.

Derek Elliott

Elliott was outstanding rushing for four touchdowns in the first quarter against Dakota State University in the Vikings last game. Although he didn’t stop there, the senior running back torched the Trojans for 229 all-purpose yards before the Vikings claimed a 63-20 win over their opponent.  The Vikings offensive captain currently leads the nation in all-purpose yards (603), total rushing yards (534) and total scoring (44 points).

 

Shane Ost.

For the second straight week Ost will share the honor of the conference’s top golfer with a University of Jamestown player, this time with Michael Strain. Ost earned the award after two strong performances on the links. The first came at the Lake Region State College Invitational. During the two day invite, the Valley City native opened play carding a 71 and finished play  77 (148 total). At the end of week Ost would net his second top-5 finish by combining his two day score at the Jamestown Invitational for a 152. The score would earn

him in fourth place.

Both athletes return to work this week, Elliott will remain on campus as the Vikings host Trinity Bible on Saturday, September 21st. Ost returns to the course, this time in Benson, Minnesota at the University of Minnesota Morris Invite on September 19th.
