CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Vikings golf team showed up to play at the Bismarck State Mystic Open on Tuesday afternoon.

Shane Ost and Ben Sorenson led the way for VCSU earning a first and second place finishes in the individual competition.  It was Sorenson who finished first and was holding on to the lead until Ost shot a 72 taking the overall victory.  The one two finish by the duo is the first time since golf was reinstated at VCSU that the Vikings have completed the task.

While the two golfers finished well, it was an overall team effort at the tournament. The Vikings fielded two squads in the open. The team comprised of Ost, Sorenson, Casey Colemer, Jake Richels, and Darren Young finished in first place with a combined score of 307. With a 334, the second VCSU squad was good enough to take fourth. Beau Diegel lead that team with an 80 on the course. That score was good enough to tie him with fellow Viking, Richels, for eighth place.

Vikings head coach Jamie Paurus was pleased with the days event’s. Hear all he had to say in my interview with him.

On the Women’s side, Haley Christofferson finished tied for third place with a 89 on the day. Alyssa Tait cracked the top 10 with a 102.

VCSU is at the Lake Region State College Invatiational next week. The meet will be at Creel Bay Golf course in Devils Lake, September 8-9.
