(NewsDakota.com)- The North Star Athletic Association has named its preseason all-conference team, and the Viking had strong representation with seven players being named All-NSAA.

Topping the list was senior running back Derek Elliott. The Valley City native was named the league’s preseason player of the year. Elliott was a strong presence in the back field for the Vikings last season carrying the ball for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns.

While Elliott earned the highest honor, six other Vikings were named to the All-NSAA team. On offense full back Jake Miller, lineman George Trujillo, and kicker Thomas Cortez all earned the distinction. Defensively it was lineman Matt Craft, Dwanye Fearon and defensive back Jake Thurston who received the high accolade.

Leading the way for the Jimmies are bookend offensive tackles Sean Emery and Mike Findlay. Safety JT Petsch, who Shawn Frank called “the quarterback of the defense” was named to the list as well. He will be heading a group that lost three starters to graduation.

WR Trent Roemmich who began to develop a report with incumebent starting QB Beau Eriksson at the end of 2012 was also on the list. DL Chris Englestad and LB Chris Sharp rounded out the six Jimmies on the list.

The University of Jamestown will kick off their season Friday night in Miles City, MT against Rocky Mountain College. Game time is slated for 7pm CT wil the pregame show at 6:30pm.

The Vikings kick off the season on Friday, August 31st when they travel across I-94 for a match up with the Jamestown Jimmies. The coverage of that game can be heard on KOVC 1490AM starting at 12:30pm.
