FARGO (NewsDakota.com)- Jamestown left 12 runners on base in a 5-3 loss to Bismarck last night in the state tournament. Each team clubbed out 11 hits, but it was Bismarck who left the field victorious.
Bismarck got a two-run homer from Josh Seibel and a two-out two-run single from Andrew Dill as the big blasts to deal Brian Wenzel his fifth loss of the summer.
With the score tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, Seibel uncorked on a Wenzel offering and hammered it over the left field fence to give the Governors an early 3-1 cushion.
Jamestown would follow that home run with leaving the bases loaded in the fifth when Joey Gebhardt popped out to first to end the inning. Jake Stilwell was able to pull Post 14 closer in the seventh with a RBI single.
Wenzel was one pitch away from getting out of another jam, when Dill slapped a 1-2 pitch into left field to score Kole Bauer and Jacob Brucker. That hit extended the Bismark lead to 5-2 into the final frame.
Nick Fuchs walked to open the inning and Riley Schafer followed that up with his eighth hit of the tournament to put runners on first and second. Pinch-hitter Landon Weiser found the chalk to left field to drive in Fuchs.
Brady Anderson struck out looking before Stilwell collected his second hit with a blooper to right. Schafer was caught off base rounding third too far for the second out. Gebhardt struck out to end the game after Shaun Hogan was walked.
Jamestown will be off today. They will play Wahpeton at 2pm on Friday. That game will be broadcast on 1400 KQDJ. If Post 14 wins, they will play again at 8pm Friday night against West Fargo.
