N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The World Fast Draw Association, known throughout the entire world for practicing the art of the fast draw, will be in Jamestown August 9th through August 11th.

Frank Lawton, Vice Chairman for the Association, is in charge of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. He says one of their senior members came across the Frontier Fort in Jamestown.

“The World Fast Draw Association has been around for roughly 50 years” Frank said. “Each broadcasting company would brag about who was the fastest and Hugh O’Brian came up with the idea of getting all the guys together to have a contest to see who truly was the fastest.”

The sport is now famous world wide. With groups in Japan, Canada and Germany, people come from all over the world to compete. Frank says, “We’ll see people from California, Calgary, Ohio, and maybe some from Japan.”

In Fast Draw, wax bullets and blank cartridges are used. Because no live ammunition is used, fast draw is considered the safest of all gun sports. In it’s existence, there has not been even one serious accident.

Events will begin August 9th with a local celebrities challenge. August 10th and 11th will be the actual competition and only WFDA members may participate. Everything will be happening at the Frontier Fort.
