CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) As the second day came to an end in the Section One Legion Tournament, Valley City and Enderlin both had strong showings on the day winning in walk off fashion.
Enderlin opened the second day taking on Harwood in a winners bracket match up. The host team got out to an early lead scoring four runs in the in the bottom of the fourth. Harwood answered back quickly in the fifth scoring two runs to start the inning. Then with basses loaded, Austin Becker hit a solid triple down the left field line clearing the base paths and giving Harwood a one run advantage. That wouldn’t hold up though, Spence Gillund evened the score at five in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run over the center field fence.
All tied up going into the seventh inning it was Gillund once again who made his way to the plate. After reaching third base on a wild throw, the Enderlin shortstop would end the game when an attempt to intentionally walk Thomas Lindgren resulted in a wild pitch. Gillund reached home and with it captured a 6-5 win over Harwood. Enderlin now meets up with Kindred at 2:30pm on Friday, July 26th. That Game will be broadcast on Q101FM.
In the night cap it was Valley City and Fairmount/Hankinson fighting for their tournament lives in a elimination match. Valley City looked like they would easily win the game putting together five runs in the first three innings. That wouldn’t be the case though. Chase Devine evened the score in the 5th with a two run double. No runs would cross the plate again in regulation.
In the bottom of the 11th inning Valley City’s Spencer Meyer earned his way on base after being hit by a pitch. That would be the costly mistake for Fairmount/Hankinson. Later in the inning Ben Baasch would force a wild throw in a close play at first. The result, Meyer was able to work his way home to earn a walk off win for Valley City by a score of 6-5. Valley City returns to action as they will meet with Lidgerwood for a second time Friday, July 26th, at 5pm. Valley City took the first game of the tournament against Lidgerwood by a score of 3-0. This game will also be broadcast on Q101FM.
