James V Person, age 84, Devils Lake formerly of Valley City passed away July 23, 2013 at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Vasa Cemetery near Litchville, ND with Military Honors, Pastor Emmy Issackson from Our Saviors Lutheran Church officiating.
James Vernon Person was born in Litchville North Dakota on May 17, 1929. He lived there until he joined the service on November 21, 1946. Jim served after WWII in Germany and was discharged May 3, 1948. He married Mary C. Fonder on December 8, 1950. They lived in Litchville. They made their home in Valley City where he managed Leo Lumber (Valley Lumber). They had three sons. Jim loved hunting, fishing and gardening. Anytime Jim could capture someone’s attention he would tell stories of an adventure.
James is survived by one sister Leone (Harold) Fick, Litchville; his sons, Duane (Mary L) Person of Valley City; Bill (Beckie)Person of Devils Lake; Four Grandchildren, Tara Lynn (Kurt) Franke, Tina Leigh, and Hunter James Person and Jeremy Sambrano, and one great grandchild, Braxton.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar (Lena Tweit) Person, his wife Mary; one son, Dale; brothers George, Clifford, and Russell, and sisters Pearl Higgins and Maylyn Justeson. Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home of Valley City is in charge of arrangements.
