Amy Samson Erdman, age 90, resident of Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, ND, formerly Wheatland, ND, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Care Center.

     Amy Steinmann was born October 9, 1922 in Tolna, ND, the daughter of Theodore and Irene (Ward) Steinmann. She grew up in Tolna and graduated from high school there.

     In June of 1941 she married Arnold Samson. They made their home on a farm near McVille, ND where they farmed for several years before moving into town and purchasing the McVille Hotel and Café. The couple operated the hotel and café for some time and then bought the Case dealership. In 1956 they moved to Valley City, ND.

     Amy had been taking classes through correspondence to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and when they moved to Valley City, she began working for Dr. Neil and Dr. A.C. MacDonald. She finished her schooling and attained her LPN degree. Her entire nursing career was spent working for the MacDonald Clinic in Valley City.

     Arnold passed away in 1975. In 1979 she married Albert Erdman. They made their home on a farm near Wheatland, ND. Albert passed away in 1991. After Amy retired she traveled around Barnes and Cass Counties doing foot care for senior citizens. In May of 2012 she entered the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.

     Amy had a love of life. She spent her days caring for others but wouldn’t have had it any other way. Family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her friends. She enjoyed playing pinochle at area Sr. Citizen Centers and also playing bridge with her Casselton bridge club friends.

     Amy was most recently a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Embden, ND and a past member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City.

     Amy will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Carolyn Samson of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Lori (Jim) Fillipi of Bemidji, MN; Michael (Joleen) Samson of Shakopee, MN; and Justin Samson of Fargo, ND; great grandchildren, Chase and Aiden Fillipi and Zackary and Jasmine Samson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Ruth Legler and Dora Lee; and a brother, Leland Steinman.

     The memorial service for Amy will be 11:00 A.M, Friday, July 26, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Valley City.
