Dorothy Jane Trader was born October 3, 1929 in Oriska, ND to Charles J. and Emma (Priebe) Trader. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended Oriska Public School. At the age of 18, she moved to Valley City, ND and worked at Foss Drug, DeBolts Café, and the 21 Club.
On February 15, 1951, she married Clarence W. Young in South Dakota. Twelve hours later, he left for Korea where he was stationed for ten months. Following his return, they made their home in Getchell Township, near Valley City, ND, where they farmed for 16 years. The couple moved to Valley City and Dorothy worked at Mercy Hospital as well as Warrens Bakery, Woolworths and Enterprises Sales. She retired in 1990. Clarence died February 8, 2004. Dorothy continued to make her home in Valley City.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Dorothy died at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND on June 17, 2013. She is survived by her children, Bob Young, Roger (Helene) Young, Sheree (Charles Jr.) Bowen all of Valley City and Carolyn (Warren “Buck”) Reisinger of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Jayson (Kelli) Bowen of Buffalo, ND, Jamie and Joey Bowen of Valley City, Amanda (Zachary) Johnshoy of Belfield, ND, Linde Young-Vital of Valley City, Mike Young of Valley City, and Christopher Reisinger of Lakeville; and great grandchildren, Garcia Vital, Donovan Johnshoy, Natalia and Sophia Johnshoy, Eve Bowen; brothers, Albert Trader of Valley City, LeRoy Trader of Carrington, ND and Fred Trader of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Carl (Mildred) Trader, Earl (Virginia) Trader, Donald (Loretta) Trader, Art Trader; and sisters, Mae (Lloyd) Triebold, Eleanor (Harold) Martinson, and Irma (Roy) Swanke.
The funeral service for Dorothy Young, 83, Valley City, ND will be 1:00 PM, Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel. She will be laid to rest with her parents and husband in the Oriska Cemetery, Oriska.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the chapel and will continue an hour prior to the service Friday.
