Raymond H. Batsch, 89, Jamestown, ND died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

     Raymond Herbert Batsch was born April 24, 1924 in Logan County near Gackle, ND, the son of Edward and Bertha (Gumke) Batsch. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Moos Township. At the age of 16 he went to work for Patterson Land Co. of Bismarck, ND. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1944 and served until his discharge in 1946. Ray returned to his family following his discharge and worked at various jobs in the area. Ray married June Wegenast on March 5, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ray Township, ND. They worked as farm laborers until 1952 when they moved to and later owned the Wegenast family homestead south of Jud, ND. Due to ill health they sold the farm and moved east of Jamestown in 1973. Ray worked for Melland Builders, The Dakota Inn, The Eagles Club and Garsten Management, all of Jamestown.

     Ray was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Jamestown Eagles, VFW Posts 3364 and 760 and was a member of the VFW Color Guard of Post 760. He enjoyed crafts and helping his family.

     Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Charlette Middlestead, Bismarck, ND and Gale (Tom) Scherbenske, both of Jamestown; son, Bruce (Ruth) Batsch, Valley City, ND; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers: Elmer (Doris) Batsch, Gackle, ND; Leonard (Charlotte) Batsch, Valley City, ND; Eugene Batsch, Minot, ND; two sisters: Annetta (Arnold) Schlecht, Gackle, ND and Doris (Clifton) Hill, Columbia, Missouri; and sisters-in-law, Violet Batsch, Jamestown and Audrey Wegenast, Edgeley, ND; brother-in-law, Melvin Schuldt, Billings, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Randall; a son, Randolph; a daughter and son-in-law, LaRay and Dennis Waltz; son-in-law, Vernon Middlestead; three sisters, Lorraine (Ted) Moench, Gertrude Schuldt, Florence Batsch; an infant sister; five brothers: Edwin, Jack (Loretta), Norbert, Marvin and Roland; brother–in-law, Ervin Wegenast.

     Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND.

     Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

     Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

     Interment: Sunset Memorial Garden, Jamestown, ND

     Memorials: Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo or Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
