Chicago Cubs Shortstop Addison Russell’s Leave Extended By MLB Through End Of Season Posted By: Michael Hines September 28, 2018 @ 5:40 am Sports Daypop Tweet Share LinkedIn Email <p Major League Baseball extended Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell’s administrative leave through Sunday, the end of the regular season. Russell was placed on administrative leave by the team last Friday when a blog written by his ex-wife, Melisa Reidy, was made public as she detailed physical, emotional and psychological abuse made throughout their marriage. Russell’s administrative leave was initially seven days, and would have expired Thursday. But the league extended it through the end of the regular season as they continue their investigation into the domestic abuse allegations. At press time, it was not yet known whether or not Russell will be available to play in the postseason. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said he does not believe the Russell situation is a distraction to his team, who are currently playing for the NL Central title.
