(NewsDakota.com) The first day of the State Baseball Tourney started a little late today, as the Bismarck/Mandan area received about an inch and a half of rain overnight. Originally the start time was set for 11:30am, but due to the overnight rain and a light mist at the original start time, things finally were underway about 12:30pm.
Carrington came out strong in the first game today and beat Trenton-Trinity Christian by 10 run rule, 11-1. Patrick Freeman was the winning pitcher, he went the distance for the Cards throwing 75 total pitches, five strikeouts, walked one and went 1-for-2 at the plate. Carrington improves to 13-2 overall, Trenton-TC drops to 12-8.
Alex Nelson was 2-for-4 at the plate today, with three RBI. Austin Hewitt had two base hits and two RBI. Taylor Skytland was 1-for-2 with a stolen base, Brady Smith was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Marcus Hewitt was 1-for-2. The Crusaders committed five errors, the Cards had eight hits and one error.
Next up for Carrington will be tomorrow at 4:30pm against the winner of Central Cass and Harvey/Wells County. Pregame will start about 4:10pm on newsdakota.com and AM 1600 KDAK.
Trenton-Trinity Christian will play tomorrow morning at 11:30am against the loser of Central Cass and Harvey/Wells County.
