CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The abbreviated spring sports season concludes at the State Tournament this weekend for the Hi-Liner fast pitch softball team.

Valley City is appearing in the State Fast Pitch Tournament for just the second time in its brief history, and will open play Thursday at about 2 p.m. against Dickinson. The State Tournament is scheduled to run Thursday, Friday and Saturday in West Fargo, weather permitting.

Valley City is the No. 2 seed from the EDC, while Dickinson is seeded No. 3 out of the WDA. All three Valley City games at the tournament will be broadcast live on KOVC 1490 and NewsDakota.com, beginning with pregame at about 2 p.m. Thursday.

Valley City has posted a 15-9 overall record this season. Brooke Breckheimer, Jessica Denholm and Dierra Diegel were named to the All EDC Team, and head coach Jason Lindgren was named Co-Coach of the Year in the EDC.

Dickinson has also had a very good year, posting a 19-5 overall record.

The Hi-Liners also advanced to state in 2011, and finished sixth that season.

There will be a send-off in Valley City for the softball team as they head to State. The send-off will start at the High School Activity Center (HAC) at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The bus and convoy will head down Central to Main then turn at Perkins and head toward Washington School before hitting the Interstate.
