(NewsDakota.com)- Jamestown College standout Davon Thomas was ruled ineligible by the NAIA due to a mix up with the amount of eligibility the Gaffney, SC product had remaining. Not only will he not be allowed to play in the 2013-14 season, but the Jimmies will have to forfeit their eight second semester wins of the previous season.

Thomas, who was a snub from the NAIA All-American team, was second on the team in scoring with nearly 15 points per game. When Thomas was recruited to Jamestown by former Head Coach Matt Murken, it was thought he had three years of eligibility remaining.

It turned out that was not the case and his eligibility ran out when the first semester ended. As a collegiate athlete you get 10 semesters to complete your eight semesters of eligibility once you start going to college.

“I want to make it clear that Davon didn’t do anything wrong, that Coach [Justin] Wieck didn’t do anything wrong,” said athletic director Lawrie Paulson. “If the public wants someone to blame, I take full responsibility.”

Jamestown College reported the incident to the NAIA and no other penalties will be handed down.
