CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City’s Claire Olson and Destiny Winkler are still alive after day one of doubles play at the State Tennis Tournament.
Olson and Winkler were upset in the first round of the State Tournament, but stayed alive with a victory over their teammates Sam Coit and Sara Gilbertson in consolation play.
Both Valley City teams lost close three-set matches in the first round, and then unfortunately had to face each other in a loser-out match. Olson and Winkler still have a shot at fifth place with up to three matches on Saturday.
For Jamestown, Kara Fix lost her first round singles match-up in straight sets, but bounced back with a three-set win in consolation play. She will continue consolation play on Saturday.
