CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The State Girls Tennis Tournament begins Thursday in Grand Forks, and Valley City will be well represented.

For the first time since 2002, Valley City qualified for the State Tennis Tournament as a team. The Hi-Liners are the No. 3 seed from the EDC and will play Minot, the No. 2 seed from the WDA, at 1 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of the Team Dual Tournament.

The second round of the Team Dual Tournament is Thursday evening, with the final round scheduled for Friday morning.

Also on Friday, play begins in the State Singles and Doubles Tournaments. Valley City has two teams in the Doubles Tournament. Destiny Winkler and Claire Olson are the EDC’s No. 2 seed, and play a team from Mandan. Sam Coit and Sara Gilbertson are also representing Valley City as the No. 6 seed from the EDC, and face a team from Minot.

Both Valley City’s doubles team play at 1 p.m. Friday. If both win their first match, Valley City’s teams would play each other in the second round. The doubles tournament wraps up on Saturday.
