(NewsDakota.com) LaMoure-Litchville/Marion baseball coach Derrold Haugen has always stressed how important doing the little things right will pay off in the course of a ballgame.

In the opening round of the Class B Region I tournament in Casselton on Friday, the Loboes did all the little things right against Enderlin/Maple Valley, and conversely, won the contest. The hiccups that were present in game number two against Central Cass doomed the potential upset.

LLM 9 Enderlin/Maple Valley 2

In game one, the Loboes took an early 5-0 lead and never looked back. Kenny Hodem and Anthony Olson each scored three times in the victory, and Quinn Alo connected for two doubles. Brady Theilges earned the win, going all seven innings, allowing just six hits, while striking out five.

Daniel Lindgren was the losing pitcher for the fifth seeded Falcons, lasting just one and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs on four hits. Spencer Gillund scored a run and registered a hit in the defeat.

Central Cass 14 LLM 4 (5 innings)

Game two was a wild up and down ride, and the #1 seeded Squirrels came out swinging the bats with five runs on six hits off of Jared Meiklejohn in the first two innings. The Loboes pulled to within a 5-3 margin with a three spot in the fourth, but Central Cass answered with another four runs in the bottom half of the inning, and five more in the fifth to defeat the Loboes for the second time this season via a 10 run rule.

Garrett Ebach, who was the winning pitcher for the Squirrels, lead the charge offensively  as well with three hits, including a solo home run in the second and finished with four runs scored.  Meiklejohn had an RBI triple in the fifth for the Loboes.

In other action up in Hunter, Kindred-Richland had an easy time with Hankinson-Fairmount 13-3. The second game saw Northern Cass take down the Vikings 3-0.

The Loboes now find themselves in loser-out play Saturday as the tournament moves to Enderlin. LLM will face Hankinson-Fairmount at 1 p.m. Coverage on Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 12:45.
