Richard “Rick” Holden, age 64, of Valley City, ND, died Thursday, May 16th at his residence in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 20th at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel in Valley City with Reverend Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Monday afternoon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery in Valley City.

     Richard “Rick” Orvin Holden, the son of Peter and Alice (Elton) Holden, was born September 3, 1948 in Valley City, ND. Rick grew up and attended school in Valley City. After receiving his education, Rick enlisted with the US Army and served his country in Viet Nam. After his discharge from service, Rick returned to the Valley City area where he did custom combining and carpentry. He spent his later years caring for his mother. Rick enjoyed many hobbies, including cooking, baking Christmas cookies, attending and working at the Farmers’ Market, building model cars, painting, fishing and going to garage sales. He was well known for his love of canning, and family members will fondly remember taking home a jar of his pickles or a can of salsa. Rick will be remembered by his family, friends and strangers alike for his warm heart, infectious laugh and the kindness shown to all who crossed his path.

     Rick is survived by his mother, Alice Bjornson, Valley City, ND; four sisters, Sandra Hutton, Valley City, ND, Diane (Pete) Peterson, Northwood, ND, Susan (Bob) Amundson, Williston, ND and Loretta Holden, Valley City, ND; one uncle, Hank Holden, Valley City, ND; three aunts, Clara Rocksvold, Valley City, ND, Tudi Birch, Las Vegas, NV and Gay Lindquist, Wells, NV; eight nieces and nephews; 8 great-nieces and nephews.

     Rick was preceded in death by his father Peter, one sister Anita Greb and a nephew Kyle Amundson.
