CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City’s boys golf team took eighth place Monday during their season-opening EDC meet at King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks.
A young Valley City team shot a 362 on Monday, edging out Fargo South (363) and Devils Lake (364). West Fargo won the meet with a 299. Wahpeton was second with a 301. West Fargo’s Riley Johnson won medalist honors with a 71.
Jared Lentz was the top Hi-Liner at the meet, finishing with an 84. Dustin Miller shot 91; Ian Schweitzer fired a 93; and Drew Oberlander came in with a 94. Levi Nix (105) and Brandon Miller (150) rounded out the team.
“We have a very young and inexperienced team this season and it showed today,” said Valley City head coach Buff Murray. “We are still trying to find the best 6 players to compete each meet and will be making some changes to the lineup. Jared Lentz had a nice day with an 84. He is our most experienced golfer with 3 varsity seasons under his belt. The rest of the roster has only 5 varsity meets between the other 5 players. We can and will work hard to improve, and hopefully that will show up in our scores on Friday May 10 at Carrington.”
