CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City blasted Fargo South 18-0 on Thursday in fastpitch softball, picking up a pair of EDC points.

The Hi-Liner offense erupted for 14 hits and 18 runs, ending it by run-rule after five innings of play. The win was worth two points in the EDC standings. Valley City moves to 4-2 in EDC play and 4-2 overall. They are currently second in the early season EDC standings behind West Fargo.

Thursday’s game in Valley City was never in doubt as the Hi-Liners scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to build a commanding lead. Pitcher Jessica Denholm was lights our for Valley City, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six.

Paula Andel led the offense with a 3-run home run, a double and five RBIs. Jasmine Stevens and Dierra Diegel each collected three hits.

Valley City plays its first road game of the season Friday night at Grand Forks Red River. Varsity starts at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Valley City is scheduled to host a junior high tournament starting at 9 a.m. at the VCSU softball complex. Valley City, Enderlin, Grafton, Fargo South and two teams from West Fargo are scheduled to participate.
