CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City girls tennis team picked up its first victory of the season Thursday, defeating Fargo Davies 6-3 in Fargo.

Clarissa Olson, Destiny Winkler, Maia Wndel and Reagen Ingstad all won matches for Valley City in singles play. Olson, Winkler and Ingstad came through under pressure, winning their singles matches in the tiebreaking third set.

In doubles play, Olson and Winkler teamed up for a win, as did Sara Gilbertson and Wendel.

“We worked movement in doubles hard yesterday in practice and did it prove to be the difference maker,” said Hi-Liner coach Matt Nielson. “All the players on the top two doubles teams were moving, poaching, putting balls in the right spots, and playing to win. At #3 doubles, our 7th and 8th grader played one heck of a match to force a 3rd set tie-breaker. I couldn’t be happier with the doubles. It was very fun to watch.”

Valley City improves to 1-3 on the season. They host Fargo South on Friday at 4 p.m.
