(NewsDakota.com)- Blake Stewart surrendered an unearned run in the second inning and that was all the Dickinson St. Blue Hawks could muster as the Jimmies won their first round game in the national qualifying tournament.

Kacey Gardiner backed Stewart’s effort with two shutout innings to close Jamestown College’s 3-1 win to move to the semi-finals tomorrow at Jack Brown Stadium.

DSU starter Tanner Newman went all 9 innings, but a pair of lead off walks in the fourth inning came around to score to give Jamestown their first lead. Spencer Flaten drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Mitch Stevens drove one in a with a single.

Jon Minchella blasted a solo homer in the 7th to give the Jimmies a little cushion.

Stewart stranded eight Hawks on base through his 7 innings, including a lead-off double and a pair of innings where the first two men reached.

Jamestown College will play the winner of Dakota State and Mayville St. at 2:30pm in the semi-finals Thursday. They game will be broadcast on AM 1400 KQDJ.
