CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Here’s a message to students and parents in the Valley City School District from Superintendent Dean Koppelman. “I have sent a request to the Department of Public Instruction/Governor’s Office to request a waiver for having to make-up the missed day of school we had on Monday, April 15th. My understanding is we may not have an answer to that request until the first part of next week. As soon as I receive the response from the Governor’s Office, I plan to send another email to you with that information. I hope knowing this tentative plan helps you as we look to finish the school year.”
“To try and help everyone with planning in the event we have to make up the day, I have met with our Building Principals to develop a plan to make-up this missed time. I have also spoken with Don Enger of Dietrich’s Bus Service in regards to bus transportation. Basically for those riding the bus, the pick-up time in the morning will be approximately 15 minutes earlier and the drop-off time at the end of the day will be approximately 15 minutes later.
Starting on Thursday, May 9th and continuing through the last day of school on Friday, May 24th we would have the following schedule: Elementary Schools – Starting time for school would be 8:25 (15 minutes earlier) Dismissal time would be 3:25 (15 minutes later)
Jr/Sr High School – Starting time would be 8:15 (15 minutes earlier) Dismissal time would be 3:40 (15 minutes later) Breakfast Starting Time in All Buildings – 7:50 AM
For High School Students that attend the Career and Technology Center – Report to the Center as first block will start at 8:15, students will then follow the new class period times for the remainder of the day.
For Jr/Sr High School teaching staff, our Building Principals will contact you in regards to the class period times for each of these days.
As a friendly reminder, our end-of-the-year staff social/recognition is on Wednesday, May 8th. We will start with social time from 5:00 – 5:30 PM with the awards/recognition program starting at 5:30 PM. There will be Years of Service awards, retirement awards, Education Foundation Awards, the Valley City Education Association Friend of Education Award, and our Teacher of the Year award. You are invited to attend the social and recognition which will be held in the Hi-Liner Activity Center lobby area.
Retiring this year are Karen Christianson, Mike Watterson, Fred Fritel, Kerry Eggert, Kathy Laumb, and Wayne Denault. Also, Jeanne Johnsen will be retiring effective September 13th and will be recognized.”
