CITY (NewsDakota.com) – After postponing almost 20 games already this spring, the Hi-Liner fastpitch softball team was finally able to open its season Thursday night in Valley City.

It was a good opener, as Valley City swept Bismarck 14-4 and 6-2 in a varsity doubleheader.

The Hi-Liners used a 10-run fourth inning to break open game one. Paula Andel and Danica Diegel each had three RBIs and Jessica Denholm tallied three hits.

In game two, five different players all had two hits. The Hi-Liners used Paula Andel, Danica Diegel and Jessica Denholm as pitchers throughout the doubleheader.

Valley City (2-0) is back in action Saturday with another home match-up. They host defending state champion West Fargo in a varsity game at 1 p.m. Saturday. A JV game will be played at 3 p.m., and the varsity will play again at 5 p.m.
