CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Tough conditions call for tough road trips.
With the spring weather leaving no playable baseball fields available in the area, the Valley City State baseball team is getting more than a little creative to play some games this week. The Vikings will travel more than 1600 miles round trip to play six games in three days this week in Minnesota and Montana.
The Vikings open the road swing with a 7 a.m. doubleheader against Presentation College Thursday morning inside the Metrodome in Minneapolis. They’ll then hit the road and travel back across the entire state of North Dakota to Billings, Mont.
In Laurel, Mont., just outside of Billings, the Vikings will take on Dickinson State in a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday. Game times are 3 p.m. CST on Friday and 1 p.m. CST on Saturday.
VCSU has a 10-17 record so far this season under the direction of head coach Casey Olney. The Vikings have not played since April 7, and have had several games postponed since then. Recent snowstorms have wiped out almost all the fields that were playable in North Dakota and South Dakota.
