N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota Department of Transportation was awarded ,000,000 for railroad enhancements in the Devils Lake region. Once completed, the rail will be raised to address the rising level of Devils Lake, as well as upgraded to help compensate for increased demand.

This Federal Railroad Administration grant is exclusive to infrastructure improvements of national significance. “This investment is important not only for Devils Lake, but our state and the nation, as the region is an essential link between our market exports and the thousands of hard working individuals seeking opportunity,” said Congressman Kevin Cramer.

The $10,000,000 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant will replace bolted rail with continuous welded rail along the Devils Lake subdivision, in an effort to increase train operating speeds, improve long-term reliability of the rail, and lower maintenance costs. The grade rise and upgrade will ensure the long-term viability of Amtrak operation and freight movements. Work will begin immediately, with the project expected to be completed by June of 2014.

North Dakota Congressman Cramer serves on the Natural Resources and Science, Space and Technology Committees.
