CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The next time there’s a flood fight in Valley City fewer sandbags will be needed thanks to the efforts of the city through the flood buyout program.
City engineer Chad Petersen presented the city with the latest adjustments in the 2013 Emergency Flood plan at a recent meeting.
Petersen said that action by the city will lead to fewer sandbags for Valley City needed to fight a major flood event in the future.
Mayor Bob Werkhoven said the flood buyout could mean a reduction of 200,000 fewer sandbag needed for flood fighting. He said during the 2011 flood fight the community produced some 250,000 sandbags.
