(NewsDakota.com)- No surprise the Jamestown girls basketball team picked up three members on the All-WDA team. The Jays finished second in the regular season and fifth at the state tournament, due large in part to state’s leading scorer Kyra Dewald, double-double machine Paige Peterson and defensive stalwart McKayla Orr.
The three Jays lead Jamestown to a 19-6 final record, the first time the Jays won 19 games since they won 20 in 2001.
Jamestown defeated Mandan 48-40 in the consolation championship Saturday morning at the Bismarck Civc Center to end the year. Dewald had 22 points thanks to six three-pointers.
Dewald finished the season averaging over 22 points per game, including scoring her 1,000th career point in Thursday’s loss to West Fargo. She closes her Blue Jay career with 1,059 points.
Peterson averaged a double-double per game with over 10ppg and 11rpg. She had a monster game against Wahpeton picking up a double-double before halftime and finishing with 25 and 15.
The athletically gifted Orr was the third Jay selected All-WDA. The two-time all-state volleyball player finished the season strong playing some of her best basketball late in the season.
Juniors Orr and Peterson will both return as part of the strong nucleus the Jays bring back next season.
