O’Brien, age 84, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, March 15th at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 20th at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery near Sanborn, ND in the spring.

Friday, March 15, 2013, we lost a kind, loving and hardworking man, Charles O’Brien. Charles was a life-long resident of Barnes County. Charles was born June 17, 1928 to Joseph and Augusta O’Brien in Barnes County. He was especially cherished by his many brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. He was always regarded as a good friend, neighbor and a man of integrity. He was raised on the family farms at Eckelson, ND and Valley City, ND. Charles acquired and farmed the Eckelson and Valley City family farms until his retirement. Charles was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Charles was a member of the Valley City Eagles since 1957 and an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus.

Charles leaves 6 brothers – Joseph of Valley City, ND; Louis (Marie) of Devils Lake ND; James of Valley City ND; Dale (Carolyn) of Gilbert, AZ; Dennis (Janet) of Marion, IA; Lloyd of Westchester, IL; 3 Sisters- Lucy Lockwood of Valley City, ND; Lillian (Edward) Moug, of Omaha, AR; Mary Emke of Marshalltown, IA; Sister-in-law, Lillie Mae O’Brien of Spokane, WA; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers – Francis, Maurice, and Earl; One Sister Alice; Brothers-in-law Alvin Widmer; Ben Lockwood; and Dennis Emke; Sisters-in law Betty and Margaret (Joseph) O’Brien; Betty (James) O’Brien, and infant twin brother, Lawrence of 6 months.
