(NewsDakota.com)- Paige Peterson’s monster first half set the tone and Kyra Dewald mailed it home as the Jamestown Blue Jays won in the consolation semi-finals over Wahpeton 86-65.
Peterson had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the opening half as they Jays lead 42-38 at half. It was the uptempo track-meet that the Jays wanted but the Huskies were hanging tough thanks to some second chance points and three-point makes.
In the second half, Jamestown proved to be too much for Wahpeton as the Jays slowly began to pull away. Building a 12-point lead and running away from there thanks to the free throw shooting of Peterson and Dewald. Both players finished with more than 25 points and nine-plus makes at the line.
McKayla Orr grabbed a trio of steals in the second half to keep the Huskies cornered.
Dewald finished with 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting and Peterson had a 25-point game on 7-of-8 shooting. In the end, the Huskies just couldn’t keep up with the fast paced Jays as Jamestown outscored them 44-27 in the second.
Jamestown will play Mandan in the rubber match of the season series with the 5th place trophy on the line at 9:30am in the Civic Center Main Arena. It will be the first of six games at the Bismarck Civic Center.
