G. “Jerry” Larson, 78, of LaMoure, ND, passed away March 12, 2013, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Jerrald was born at LaMoure, ND on June 10, 1934, to Alfred and Neva (Muir) Larson. He attended country school at Dean 1 and Dean 3 through the 8th grade, and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1952. Jerry joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Putnam, a destroyer from 1953 to 1957. After his discharge, he returned to LaMoure to help his parents on the farm. On February 27, 1959, Jerry married Dorothy Smith. They made their home on the family farm until 1960, when they moved to Dickey, North Dakota, where Jerry worked at the Adrian Elevator. In 1961, the family moved to LaMoure, and Jerry was employed by the LaMoure Creamery, Art’s Red Owl, and Willey’s Milk Service along with starting his side business, Larson Septic Service in 1968, which he worked for 45 years. In 1973, he went to work for the Melroe Company in Gwinner, retiring in October of 1997 after 24½ years. Jerry also enjoyed his part time job doing farm work for Herb and Dakotah Harmsen, and Larry Harmsen.

Jerry loved to ride horse, drive teams of horses, and teach his kids and grandkids how to ride horse. He also loved the outdoors, especially fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Jerry served on the Park Board, the Fire Deparment, and was very active in the American Legion and the Senior Citizen’s Center.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; four children, James (Wanda) Larson, LaMoure, Kathleen (Dave) Knutson, Litchville, ND, Susan (Bruce) Rienstra, LaMoure, and Thomas (Doneen) Larson, Tioga, ND; one brother Robert (Margret) Larson, Edgeley, ND; one sister, Gayle (Larry) Shuck, Bismarck, ND; one brother-in-law, John (Marlys) Freadhoff, Valley City, ND; one sister-in-law, Alice Larson, LaMoure, ND; and eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Neva; his siblings Evelyn, Donna, Glen, and Mary Jean “Jean”; and his favorite horse, Mr. D.

There will be a visitation from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm with a prayer service starting at 7:30 pm on Friday, March 15, 2013, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in LaMoure, ND. The funeral will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in LaMoure on Saturday, March 16, 2013, starting at 2:30 pm.
