N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A 52-43 win on Saturday for the Jamestown Blue Jays over the Minot Majettes has now propelled the Jays to their second State Championship Tournament appearance in three years, having last gone in 2011.
While Kyra Dewald led the way with 19 points, it was double-doubles from both McKayla Orr and Paige Peterson that pushed the Jays over the top and earned Coach Andy Skunberg’s squad their 17th win of the season.
Orr finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Peterson added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Jamestown dominated the rebounding all day, finishing up with 43 team boards as opposed to Minot’s 30.
In the defeat, Minot got a huge lift from freshman forward Cassie Askvig, who knocked down six 3-pointers and finished the game with 18 points.
The Jays will now play West Fargo at approximately 7 p.m. from the Bismarck Civic Center on Thursday. Coverage can be heard on Dakota Country KQDJ-AM and online at NewsDakota.com.
Jamestown returns to the state tournament after a one-year absence.
