N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The fourth quarter belonged to the LaMoure-Litchville-Marion Loboes Thursday night at the Jamestown Civic Center as they outscored the South Border Mustangs 25-13 in the final eight minutes to bring home their first Region III championship since 2008.
The Loboes (22-2) were victorious in 62-47 fashion, led by Region III Senior Athlete of the Year Jared Meiklejohn, who posted 16 points for L-L-M.
Sophomore Anthony Olson had a big night as well with 19 points and 6 rebounds, in addition to a 4-for-5 stretch of makes from the free throw line in the closing minutes.
South Border (14-11) led 19-17 at half, but were outscored by the Loboes by 17 points in the second half. In the defeat, senior standout Michael Jacobson had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
L-L-M will now go on to play the Region VII winner in the opening round of the State Class B Tournament in Minot on March 7.
In the third place game which began the evening, the Linton/Hazelton-Moffitt-Braddock Lions defeated the Strasburg-Zeeland Clippers by a 54-46 final.
The Lions (18-6) got a double-double from sophomore forward Ryan Schneider with 16 points and 12 rebounds plus a 14-point output from swing man Tyler Humann.
Despite the loss, the Clippers’ (20-4) head coach Brent Kleinsasser was named Region III Coach of the Year. Mason Kramer led the Clippers in scoring in the defeat with 10 points.
