
HAZELWOOD, MO – Brad Fortin scored 2:18 into overtime Saturday to give University of Jamestown Division 1 Men’s Hockey a 3-2 win over Grand Canyon in the first round of the ACHA National Championships at Ice Zone.
Zane MacDonald and Keaton Cline assisted on the winner, which came after Grand Canyon’s Owen Hanson tied the game at 2-2 with 2:34 left in the third period with his second goal of the game.
Jordan Baranesky put the Jimmies (23-12-2-0) in front 1:46 into the first period, set up by Carter Johnson.
Hanson tied the game with a power play goal at 10:59 for Grand Canyon (15-14-0-0).
Jacob Thomas restored the Jamestown lead at 12:15 of the first period, assisted by Johnson and goalie Brandon Weare.
Weare made 27 saves and stopped a penalty shot by the Lopes’ Nash Jacobsma at 4:58 of the third period.
Jamestown outshot Grand Canyon 32-29.
On Sunday, the Jimmies will play a quarterfinal game against fourth-ranked Liberty.
