DEVILS LAKE (NewsDakota)- The first state tournament appearance since 2019 for New Rockford-Sheyenne will have to wait, at least until Saturday.

Kaden Moore scored 21 points, including four triples, and the North Border Eagles never trailed in a 55-46 win over the Rockets in the Class B Region 2 Championship Game on Thursday night at the Devils Lake Sports Center.

Moore and Weston Cosley combined for 13 first quarter points as the Eagles raced out to an 18-4 lead before Bennett Meier scored nine of his team-high 15 to bring New Rockford-Sheyenne to within twelve at the break.

North Border went 8:41 without a point in the second half, thanks in large part to Grant Cosley’s foul trouble, and the Rockets closed to within four in the fourth quarter, but could get no closer.

New Rockford-Sheyenne will have a second chance to punch a state tournament ticket on Saturday night against LaMoure-LM, who got a game-winning three by Mason Warcken with 0.7 left on Thursday night to beat Medina/Pingree-Buchanan 43-40.  Coverage on Thunder 98.3 follows the Oakes/Midway-Minto game, which tips off at 5:00 PM.
