MINOT (NewsDakota)- As tears flowed down the faces of Carrington seniors Edyn Hoornaert and Isabel Wendel during an embrace after the final buzzer of their final game, they could not help but crack a smile as well.  A fitting end to a season that brought so much joy to so many people.

Annabel Scheeler’s three missed wide left at that buzzer and the Carrington Cardinals won the consolation final of the 2025 NDHSAA Class A Girls Basketball Tournament with a hard-earned 47-44 triumph over Dickinson Trinity on Saturday afternoon inside the Minot State University Dome.

The Cardinals, and freshman Marah Johnson specifically, came out firing from deep as Johnson buried three triples in the first quarter and behind four total as a team, Carrington led 14-10.  Both teams drained three more treys in the second quarter and it was 27-23 Carrington at the half.

But the game became a rock fight in the second half, as Carrington shot 7/27 (26%) after halftime and held the Titans to 7/27 as well in a half that produced four ties and four lead changes.  Both teams made only two field goals in the fourth quarter as Carrington gave up a combined five points in the fourth quarters of their last two games.

The Cardinals finish 20-7 on the season, the first 20-win season since the 2020-21 state qualifiers.  The game marked the last in a Carrington uniform for seniors Hoornaert, Wendel, Brynn Smith, Kaydence Van Ray and Kenadie Pazdernik.
