Wahpeton, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Boys Class B District 1 Tournament concluded on Tuesday March 4th at NDSCS in Wahpeton with the Region Qualifiers and District Championship. You can see the full schedule and results below.

Region Qualifier 1: #3 Barnes County North 50-41 #5 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood

The Bison warded off a 2nd half surge from the Warbirds to advance to the Region Tournament for the 2nd straight year. The game started with the Bison dominating as they’d outrebound the Warbirds 21-7 in the first half using that to lead to a 17-12 lead after 1 and a 28-21 lead at the half. WL would not go quietly into the goodnight however as they battled back in the 3rd quarter going on a 13-0 run to tie it after 3 quarters at 32-32 and even take a lead early in the 4th. However BCN would go into lock down mode and take home the victory as WL got into foul trouble. They’d win 50-41.

Wyndmere-Lidgerwood’s season comes to a close with a 10-12 record. BCN will go back to the Region 1 Tournament as the #3 seed from District 1 where they will play the District 2 Runner Up.

Region Qualifer 2: #4 Maple River 55-50 #7 Tri-State

The Raiders survived a late Tri-State push to advance onto the Region Tournament for the first time since 2023. The Raiders led through the entire first half where they dominated in the possession department and shot department getting a 29-18 lead at the half with Tee Sylling leading the way with 20 in the first half. The Tigers would start to come back in the 3rd however cutting the lead down to 41-33 at the end of 3. They’d get to within 5 in the final minutes but couldn’t find the final buckets to tie and would fall 55-50.

Tri-States season ends with a 6-16 record. Maple River will go to the Region 1 Tournament as the #4 seed from District 1 where they will play the District 2 Champion.

District 1 Championship: #1 (7) Oakes 73-46 #2 (9) Hankinson

For the first time since 2021 Oakes has won a District Tournament as they dominate the Pirates 73-46. The game started with fire wagon basketball with back and forth scoring and 5 lead changes before Oakes settled into the lead taking a big 23-13 lead through the 1st quarter. They’d build it up to 39-25 at the half. They would continue to dominate into the 3rd taking a 57-34 lead and finally winning 73-46.

The Oakes Tornadoes have now won 15 straight and will take on Linton-HMB in the first round of the Region 1 Tournament while Hankinson will play EKM in the first round.
