COSTA MESA, CA – Vanguard University swept University of Jamestown Men’s Volleyball 26-24, 25-20, 25-22 Monday at the Freed Center for Leadership.

Logan Freemon had 11 kills for Vanguard (4-8) with three blocks and an ace.  Phinehas Wiley scored nine kills for the Lions.

For Jamestown (4-12), Gaven Hackley had 13 kills, an ace and seven digs.  Michal Niemiec had nine kills and a block.

The Jimmies hit .265 in the first set and led 23-22 on Hackley’s ace before Nick Dvorak had back-to-back kills for Vanguard.  Niemiec had a kill to bring Jamestown even at 24-24, but two attack errors by UJ ended the set.

Two kills from Hackley and one from Niemiec were part of four straight points that gave Jamestown a 13-12 lead in the second set.  After a 20-20 tie, Brock Henderson had a Vanguard kill, then four more attack errors by the Jimmies put the Lions up by two sets.

Vanguard led throughout the third set as the Lions hit .414.

Jamestown will play the second of its three consecutive matches in California against Hope International on Tuesday in Fullerton.
