
WEST FARGO, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Roy Degenstein of Watford City, ND, will be awarded the Legionnaire of the Year
Award by the North Dakota American Legion on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Legion Joint Session at 10:00 AM at the Department Convention in Fargo. Roy was nominated by the Watford City American Legion Post #29.
Roy grew up in Dickinson, ND, and went to high school in Great Falls, MT. He joined the Army right after high school and was sent to Fort Ord for AIT as a cook. He was then sent to Germany for two years and went through the Food Service Apprentice Program. Roy went back to Germany for his last two years of service. After his discharge, Roy came back to ND to work in the oil field for 32 years.
Roy has been a part of Legion baseball for 28 years and has been part of the Watford City Park Board for nine years. Roy rebuilt the old diamond at the Legion Field in 2006. Roy has made meals for Legion events as well as cooking for the firefighters during the week in October 2024, when our county had its biggest grass fire in history.
Roy is married to Cindy, and they have four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
