VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com, photo submitted)  After capturing the state title with a technical fall in a half minute, and a 49-1 season, Koltyn Grebel was acknowledged as the state’s top wrestler at the North Dakota State Class “A” wrestling tournament.

Grebel was awarded the state’s “Mr. Wrestler” award at the conclusion of the state individual tournament Friday night at the FargoDome.

Grebel won the state tournament with three wins by fall on Thursday.  The then won the state title match in impressive fashion, scoring a technical fall over Cole Savageau, the state’s second-ranked wrestler in the weight class.  Grebel scored 15 points in 3:48 seconds for the win.

Grebel led three Hi-Liner placewinners.  Ryer Muske placed fifth at 189, and Owen Hunt placed seventh at 285.   Muske won three out of four in the wrestlebacks.  Hunt had a terrific tournament, winning a top-eight place after being seeded 15th of 16 wrestlers in the weight class.

Valley City also had three placewinners in the girls individual tournament.  Victoria Sanchez placed fourth at 118, Deegan Kirschenmann placed fifth a 130, and Mylee Christianson placed fourth at 142.

Kirshenmann ended the season with 38 wins, and Christianson rounded out the season with 36 victories to pace the Hi-Liner girls team.
