
JAMESTOWN – University of Jamestown Softball split a pair of games Friday inside the Nelson Family Bubble, losing to Valley City State 9-3 and edging UMary 6-5.
VCSU 9, Jamestown 3
VCSU (5-4) scored five unearned runs on four errors by Jamestown (4-7).
Kennadi Stone had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI for the Vikings. Madison Hazelton and Alyssa DePoorter had two hits each. Kylee Banerd also homered.
Lauren Weigel and Sidnie Aasen hit RBI singles for UJ. Maddie Spaeth had an RBI groundout.
Hope Ransome (3-3) struck out six in four and two-thirds innings.
Jamestown 6, UMary 5
After UMary (3-8) scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-4 lead, Jamestown (5-7) came back with two runs in the sixth.
Hope Ransome singled and was doubled to third by Natalie Draper. Kate Geiszler walked to load the bases, and Kaitlin McCartney singled up the middle to bring in Ransome and Geiszler.
Weigel hit an RBI double and Spaeth had an RBI single in a two-run Jamestown first inning. Hope Ransome hit a two-run double in the third inning.
Laura Ransome pitched three innings of relief for her first collegiate win, allowing a run and four hits. Hope Ransome worked the last two innings for her second save.
Jamestown will play twice more on Saturday inside the Nelson Family Bubble, meeting Dickinson State at noon and Concordia College (MN) at 8:30 PM.
