VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City Hi-Liners ended their four-game skid with a 66-58 Senior Night victory over the Oak Grove Grovers, led by a 19-point effort from Bryson Heck.
The Hi-Liners’ offensive struggles continued early, managing just nine points in the first quarter. However, their defense kept the game close, limiting Oak Grove to 10 points in the opening frame.
Both teams found their rhythm in the second quarter, trading baskets in an evenly matched period. Senior Teagan Zaun sparked Valley City with seven points in the frame, while Oak Grove spread its scoring among six different players, with Aidan Saunders leading the way at halftime with nine points. The teams went into the break with Oak Grove holding a narrow 27-26 advantage.
The back-and-forth battle continued in the third quarter. Valley City received a boost off the bench from Jack Samuelson, who contributed seven points, while the Grovers continued their balanced attack, getting five different players on the scoresheet in the period.
The Hi-Liners seized control in the fourth, as Heck and Jack Dieterle took over, combining for 16 of Valley City’s 24 points in the final frame. Oak Grove’s offense stalled down the stretch, with only Kai Zabel scoring more than three points in the quarter. His eight-point effort wasn’t enough, as Valley City pulled away to secure the 66-58 win.
The Hi-Liners will return to action Tuesday, Feb. 25, on the road against Hillsboro/Central Valley.
