O’FALLON, IL – Recent frustration turned to elation for University of Jamestown ACHA Women’s Hockey.

The 13th-ranked Jimmies stunned fourth-ranked McKendree 3-2 on Thursday in the first round of the Women’s Midwest College Hockey Tournament at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.

Before Thursday, UJ (8-15-4-3) hadn’t scored since January 24th, suffering four shutout losses in a row.  But Samantha Beaulac broke the 283 minute, 47 second drought at 10:39 of the first period.  Kerstyn Barron tied the game only 52 seconds later for McKendree (24-5-2-0).

With 1:52 left in the first, the Jimmies grabbed the lead for keeps as Mackenzie Couling scored a power play tally, assisted by Maddie Andrew and Jaeda Clayton.

In the second period at 8:27, UJ made the lead 3-1 when Beaulac set up Sophia Banda for her first collegiate goal.

Kiley Hasenfratz scored a power play goal with 31 seconds left in the middle period for the Bearcats.

McKendree kept charging in the third period, putting 13 shots on Jimmie goalie Lilah Drew, but she stopped them all and Jamestown killed off two penalties to complete the upset.  Drew made 25 saves overall.  McKendree had a 27-19 shot advantage.

The Jimmies will play Liberty University in a semifinal game on Friday in O’Fallon.
