JAMESTOWN – University of Jamestown Softball began its 2025 home schedule Thursday with a doubleheader split against Montana State-Billings inside the Nelson Family Bubble.  UJ took the opener 6-1 before MSU-Billings earned a 6-4 victory in the second game.

Game 1: Jamestown 6, MSU-Billings 1
Maddie Spaeth drove in three runs and Hope Ransome combined with Laura Ransome on a five-hitter for the first win of the season for Jamestown (1-2).
Spaeth knocked a two-run double in the first inning. MSUB scored in their half of the second, but a Trinity Gregg RBI double in the home second restored the Jimmies’ two-run lead.
An infield hit by Spaeth in the fifth extended the UJ margin to 4-1, and the Jimmies added two more in the sixth inning on an error and a fielder’s choice by Kayla Quintanilla.
Hope Ransome (1-1) worked the first six innings, striking out five. Laura Ransome pitched a hitless seventh with a strikeout and a walk.

Game 2: MSU-Billings 6, Jamestown 4
A five-run third inning led the Yellowjackets (1-5) to their first win of 2025. Kaylin Galvin singled in the first run before Bryn Lucht slammed a grand slam to right center field.
The Jimmies gained two runs back in the third inning on an error and a sacrifice fly by Spaeth.
Lauren Weigel knocked in a run with a fifth-inning single and UJ was down just 5-3.
Wynter Hurst delivered an RBI single in the MSU-Billings sixth, with Trinity Gregg driving in a run with a fielder’s choice in the bottom half of the inning. However, Jamestown (1-3) left two runners in scoring position in the sixth and another in the seventh.
Starter Abby Blair (0-2) lasted only two and a third innings, allowing five runs and three hits and walking two.

UJ will play twice more on Friday inside the Nelson Family Bubble, against Dickinson State at 3:30 PM and UMary at 8:00 PM.
