David Allen Bruce, 51, of Valley City, ND, passed away on January 31, 2025, under the care of hospice in Mandan, ND.

David was born March 29, 1973, in Fargo, ND to Shirley (Ziemba) Bruce. He attended school in West Fargo, ND and graduated high school in Rugby, ND in 1996.

David worked at various jobs including commercial and residential janitorial; construction; retail; Uber driver, and taxicab driver in Bismarck, ND. Driving taxi was the job he enjoyed most. He was very proud of his taxi license and carried it even after it expired.

David returned to Valley City where he cared for Shirley. They enjoyed trips to casinos and going out to eat. When she entered hospice care, he continued to buy her “scratch-offs”. He inherited Shirley’s “lucky gene” as they seemed to win often. He enjoyed traveling and took a well-deserved trip after Shirley passed. He drove through Painted Canyon, Roosevelt State Park, camped in Rosebud, MT, visited Devil’s Tower and Mount Rushmore. Upon returning to North Dakota, he became overwhelmed with health issues and retired early.

He is survived by his sister, Tana (Jeff) Pomplun; nephew, Peter; niece, Caitlin all of Bismarck, ND; uncle, Dick (Judy) Fargo, ND; aunts, Jaci of Missoula, MT, Bonnie of Washington, Lenora of Valley City, ND; and cousins, Jody, Lori, Tim, and John.

David was preceded in death by grandparents, Jack and Adyline (Triebold) Ziemba; mother, Shirley Ziemba; sisters, Sherri (Norman) Miller, Shelly Bruce; uncle, Jim (Lenora) Ziemba; and fur baby, Tippy.

Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn, ND in the spring.
