NEW SALEM (NewsDakota)- For the Carrington Cardinals, it does not always have to be pretty to be effective, and on Tuesday night, they showed that statement to be true yet again.

Five players scored in double figures despite cold three-point shooting and Carrington held on to a 70-65 win over New Salem-Almont on the road for their sixth win in their last seven games.

The first quarter saw two ties and a lead change, but once the Cardinals (11-4) took the lead at 6-5, they never trailed again in the entire game.  Carrington led by five (17-12) after one quarter and by ten (33-23) at the half before the teams combined for 79 second-half points.

The Cardinals only made three triples in the whole game, their fewest since the Thompson game, but Josh Bickett, Maddox McIlonie, Tate Wolsky, Alec Threadgold, and Grady Idland all had at least ten points in the win.  Landon Tellmann led the Holsteins (4-10) with 27 points, including 22 after halftime.

Carrington is next in action on Thursday night at the Lisbon Broncos, who fell to Valley City 65-47 on Tuesday night at home.  Coverage on Thunder 98.3 begins at approximately 7:15 PM.
