FORKS (NewsDakota.com) Both Jamestown High School hockey teams had setbacks on Friday at the 2013 State Hockey Tournament. The boys saw their season come to and end, while the girls saw their chance at a state title end.

Boys: Minot 3 Jamestown 2

In the loser-out contest pitting two west teams together, the boys of Jamestown High were able to place the first goal of the game within the first five minutes thanks to Nick Stockert. However, the Magi scored the next three in a row, and despite a goal in the third from Jamestown’s Austen Rene, Minot held ground down the stretch to send them to the 5th place game, and the Blue Jays home for the year.

Minot’s Breydan Effertz made 18 saves in the Magi victory, Ben Walz made 10 saves, and Tygh Yatskis stopped 13 shots in the loss for Jamestown.

Girls: West Fargo 7 Jamestown 2

In the girls affair, the Packers took an early 4-0 lead, but the Jays were able to add one very late in the first period from Amber Schaack to take a 4-1 deficit to the first intermission. The Jays played solid in the second 17 minutes, as Torri Kamlitz scored in the first five minutes for the Jays to pull within two goals. However, that was as close as the girls got, as West Fargo scored the next three unanswered, and punched their ticket back to a State Championship game.

West Fargo’s Andrea Klug made 13 saves, while Jamestown’s Carissa Finck stopped 34. Larissa Wiest had two assists for the Jays. 

The girls will play for third place on Saturday morning against the loser of Bismarck and Grand Forks, with faceoff set for 11 a.m. on the ice of Ralph Englestad Arena. Coverage on KRVX-FM 103.1 and NewsDakota.com starts at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
