FORKS (NewsDakota.com) It was a mixed day for the fans of Jamestown High School Hockey. On one hand, the girls advanced to the semi-finals for the first time in team history, while on the other, the boys were thumped by one of the best teams in the state in the opening round.

Girls: Jamestown 4 Fargo South/Davies 2

The Blue Jay girls earned their first victory of the year against the Bruins, and it certainly came at the right time. Jamestown scored in the first period, with an unassisted goal from Torri Kamlitz, and then took a 2-0 lead early on in the second period courtesy of a goal by Amber Schaack.

The Bruins found the scoreboard midway through the second with a goal from Alex Woken, but the Jays answered with a goal from Steph Kamlitz on the power play as the second period drew to a close.

In the third, the Bruins pulled to within a goal with a power play goal from Kara Tupa, but the Jays added an empty netter late from Torri Kamlitz to seal the deal.

Carissa Finck made 23 saves for the victorious Jays, while Emily Grothmann made 22 saves in the loss for the Bruins.

Boys: Grand Forks Red River 6 Jamestown 0

The boys of Jamestown High were down early in their contest against Red River; trailing 3-0 after one period of play, with the Jays only having four shots on goal after the first 17 minutes.

Periods two and three were no kinder to the Jays, as Red River added another three, and Jamestown only managed 11 shots on goal in the game. Aaron Sauvre made 10 saves for Red River in two periods; Charlie Churchill made one in the third period. Jamestown’s Tygh Yatskis stopped 28 in his two periods of work, while Ben Walz stopped all six of the shots he faced in the third period.

The boys will play Minot in a loser-out game in the Olympic Rink Friday morning at 11 a.m., with coverage on TED FM 98.3, while the girls play West Fargo in Ralph Engelstad Arena at noon, with coverage on KRVX-FM 103.1 The Raven starting around 11:45 a.m.
